When I'm sick (and on cold medicine) apparently my thoughts turn to pr0n (and having pr0n muse [livejournal.com profile] wizened_cynic in my comments doesn't help! Or, yanno, it does in a very naughty way).

Xena rec of the day:
Truth or Dare by Meghan O'Brien is NC-17 and really, this is a PWP. A very well-written PWP and an uber. Jena has been fantasizing about Ryan since college. A reunion at a cabin in the woods with some friends leads to a game of truth or dare which leads to...oh you know the rest!

CSI
A Sassy Encounter, or The Return of the Infamous 'Love Scene' by Shatterpath in the Shatterstorm Femslash Advent Calendar is very NC-17, Sara/Sofia. There is a very good, very romantic story here, but my thoughts were totally derailed by the hot sex0r! In the best way possible. NWS. Not anywhere safe. I'd give this one 5 cold showers out of 5.

SPN
[livejournal.com profile] wizened_cynic brought [livejournal.com profile] valiant's tremendous PWP, Pit Stop to my attention. this is a superhot shortfic Jo/Jess, obviously very NC-17. I don 't know what to say about this except that it's two hot girls having hot sex in a pickup truck and fondly remembering other moments of hot sex. It's like a nesting doll of oral sex...or something. You know, I have no idea what that means, but yeah! Pr0n! Again NAS.
A bunch of random recs from a bunch of fandoms. Mostly fluff with a bit of angst and (of course) sex thrown in for good measure.

SGA recs:
different enough by [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant is weir/keller, PG. This is lovely and hurt/comfort , which is one of my major kinks plus its quasiradiant so...srsly. Do I even have to review this? It's somewhat fluffy believe it or not. And beautiful. Go read. Lighten up your day.

With the Cost Not Counted by [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat is Weir/Heightmeyer, Mature. Another beautiful fic. This one moves from Earth back to Atlantis and deals with all of the emotional fallout that goes along with starting a relationship in a time of transition and turmoil. Great stuff!

CSI
Summer Storm by [livejournal.com profile] so_wicked is Sara/Sofia, PG-13. A short stream-of-consciousness from Sofia's POV during/after she is shot. Finally, rain . Also check out [livejournal.com profile] so_wicked's Perfume for more fluffy, Sassy goodness!

Murder in Suburbia
Murder in Suburbia by [livejournal.com profile] trancer21 (??!) is Ash/Scribbs, Pg-13 and it's totally and completely hilarious fluff...from trancer. Did hell freeze over while I wasn't looking? Not that trancer can't write anything she wants, but I'm used to scorching hot PWP. But I loved this!

Birthday Blues by [livejournal.com profile] kjaneway is ASh/Scribbs, PG-13. This is a wonderfully sweet and well-written piece that alternates between Ash and Sullivan(it works believe it or not!)'s POV to reveal the blossoming relationship between the two women. Beautifully done.

South of Nowhere (RPS)
Fait Accompli by [livejournal.com profile] jengrrrl is actually Gabrielle/Mandy, NC-17. This short fic manages to be all kinds of hot AND fluffy at the same time. I love the way Jengrrl writes. Great description and dialog, nothing overdone.

Next post will be an enormous Xena rec in honor of [livejournal.com profile] ralst's Xena Month!

Crack!fic

Apr. 20th, 2006 05:20 pm
Apparently, end of the semester=crack!fic time. *looks up* thank you ghod...or, yunno, whatever's up there.

Fragments Of Lines Written On The Bathroom Walls In Ten Different Fandoms by [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 should come with a warning label because it's so damn funny you may soil yourself. Or spit food. Or something potentially damaging to furniture and/or equipment.
My favorite is from
"05. Watcher's Council Headquarters, Rome, third floor"

Faith is a slut!!!
Faith, stop writing that.

but they're all so LMAO you might just hurt yourself.

also,

[livejournal.com profile] thrace_ is writing a Star Wars uber Alias (what?) Sydney/Rachel, Mature that hits all my kinks: action, romance, and hot chicks with light sabers kicking ass. Episode I and Episode II so far. Warning: WIP.

and crack!tastic for entirely different reasons, [livejournal.com profile] trancer21's Business or Pleasure is SVU/CSI Alex Cabot/Sara Sidle, NC-17. [livejournal.com profile] trancer21 does wonderful things with language, plot, incredibly evocative rapid-fire scenes and imagery to tell a fantastically hot and complex story in 1808 words. Plus, Sara/Alex!! Apparently Witness Protection takes Ms. Cabot all over the country, putting her in contact with so many hotties. But seriously, this is a fantastic read. And FINALLY kickass takemattersintoherownhands Alex returns!

CSI

Not my fandom, but great fic is great fic and [livejournal.com profile] zennie's The Replacements (Catherine/Sarah, 15) is that. Sarah's one-night stands are just replacements for the one she can't have... until Catherine finds out. Complex characterization and interaction and no easy solutions because these characters are women whose lives are in constant turmoil. Not to mention women with a past. Love isn't easy, especially for these two.

ETA Also, apparently [livejournal.com profile] ralst is on strike as far as updating P&P goes. As far as I can tell, she's holding out for SVU Alex/Olivia fic because we're in some sort of drought. So could someone please, please, please get cracking on the A/O?

CSI

I'm still struggling with the BTVS mother-of-all recs post. I'm beginning to think I should do it in installments and give myself a break. Basically, I've decided I need to look over everything I'm reccing (it's been a LONG time!) and that leads to lots of rereading and enormous time-suck. What?! I have to be thorough!

In the meantime, recs for a show I don't even watch:

[livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname's Stray Conversations PG, Sara/Catherine is a charming and very interesting take on their romance. Told entirely through conversations between Catherine and a very likeable and well-drawn Grissom, [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname tells us their story indirectly with remarkable results. No sex though. Sorry. :)

I've recc'd this story before, but things tend to get buried so here it is. If you haven't read Monique Bartok's Crash & Yearn, you're missing out. Sara/Catherine, NC-17. Alternating first person. I read this because I loved Monique's SVU, A/O fic, Sere Nere, and it made me finally take the CSI fandom seriously. An explosion involving Sara and Lindsey makes Catherine re-assess her feelings for her younger colleague. There are a few grammatical and phrasing oddities in here that I took to be the stumblings of a non-native English speaker, so you have been warned. They don't get in the way of a really wonderful story though.

CSI

I've learned two things in the past few days:
1) I'm just going to have to get over my JF, CSI problem (HATE the show) because there's too much good fic coming out of this fandom and all of it centers on JF.
2) [livejournal.com profile] ralst gets what she asks for (Sara/Sofia in this case :) and/or makes her own fun

Two unlikely pairing ficlets from CSI:

[livejournal.com profile] trancer21's An Inappropriate Glance, Sara/Sofia, PG. Sara catches Sofia looking. LOL banter and flirting.

and [livejournal.com profile] ralst makes her own fun with Coming to An Agreement. Sara/Sofia PG. More sexy, LOL office banter. Again, no smut.

Okay, when is someone going to make them make out!?
Yes, it's crossover Wednesday here at [insert name of the week]. These two center on the SVUniverse:

I know I'm not supposed to rec WIPs, but I can't help myself. [livejournal.com profile] zennie's fic is just too addictive, plus, I'm hoping that more readers will bother her to update faster. Between Love and Hate is olivia/sara sidle (csi) Mature? Olivia's taken a leave of absence to work in Vegas (what?! it's no more ridiculous than most SVU plots) and meets up/clashes with a difficult coworker in CSI. Hotness ensues.

Untitled Jordan WIP from [livejournal.com profile] heathers, olivia/jordan, Very Mature. Jordan's in NYC trying to find herself and Olivia volunteers to help. The characterization in this is just pitch-perfect. Jordan is especially well drawn, right down to the signature gestures and speech patterns. This fic has really stuck with me. And, yes, heathers, we would like to see more of this although I think it stands on its own.

also, from [livejournal.com profile] heathers check out The Myth of Closure olivia/abbie, Very Mature. So it's only technically a crossover, but....More great characterization and a complex relationship between two incredibly hot and difficult women.

Holla Back

I figure it's about time I give something back to femslash, so here it is, the first of several installments.

Novel length

Terra Firma by Tulipp. BTVS, Willow/Tara -- Tulipp can write people! A Tara resurrection story. Tara returns to Sunnydale and it's up to the Scoobies to figure out how and why. Beautifully done. Julie/Tulipp was the writer who made me go, "holy shit, you can do that with fanfiction?!?" It's that good.

Campus by Anik LeChev. über 7/Janeaway. Set in the cutthroat, high octane world of...academia. Actually, it's so über, it's..definitely a different universe entirely. I've never even watched Voyager, but this came highly recommended and it's worth it. It's a fascinating story by someone who obviously knows their way around universities, not to mention the English language. A cast of well-drawn original characters rounds out a truly amazing piece of fic. Ms. LeChev is also responsible for Game's End(J/7) a really remarkable answer to End Game, the final ep of Voyager. Characterization is just pitch perfect.

Cooking on High by Creme Brulee is Xena uber. Again, not my fandom, but god this is funny and complex and hot. Set in the cutthroat, backstabbing world of...haute cuisine. Xena (French) is a crazy chef with a checkered past and Gabrielle is the hapless waitress who complicates everything.

novella
Monique Bartok is one of my new favorites. Sere Nere (L&O/SVU Alex/Olivia) is a realistic and haunting look at what might have happened if Alex had returned to NYC. Realistic because they don't just fall into each other's arms and make nice. It's awkward and uncomfortable and lovely. Also, Crash and Yearn (CSI Catherine/Sarah) takes one of my least favorite shows and pairings and does something remarkable with it. Mad props to Ms. Bartok.

Fluff

Third Time's the Charm by Jennifer Oksana. BTVS/Angel, Willow/Fred. Ms. O can write sweetness too. And damn her dialogue's good!

The Unbearable Weirdness of Being by klynkey. (Gilmore Girls, Paris/Rory). Spot on characterization and LOL funny/cute because how could it not be?

PWP
Final Exam (links to Lesbo Street Cred, tommo's site) by Tommo. BTVS, W/T. It's enormous, but every chapter is essentially a PWP based loosely around a different S3 ep. The premise: Tara comes to Sunnydale High and meets Willow. A smut classic in the W/T ship. But don't just read it for the smut, Tommo's characterization and writing is truly inspired and her sense of humor will have you howling out loud. Her take on Gingerbread (Cookie Monsters in the Final Exam[verse) is just laugh out loud stuff, but with a bittersweet twist. Willow is burned at the stake because she's gay, not because of witchcraft. The only drawback, they're only available as .doc downloads. Well worth it though.

Pseudoscience by Jennifer Oksana the master of PWP. BTVSxAngel, Willow/Fred. Jennifer O is one wonderfully sick girl and she can write like an angel. It doesn't hurt that I really like the W/F pairing and she just nails the characterization. Also, if you're into het or slash, Ms. O has tons of it on her site.
