leavethesky: (sarah connor shotgun)
A quick shout out to The Sarah Connor Chronicles Virtual Season , which is just exceptionally well-written, plotted, etc. If you love Sarah Connor (and who doesn't?), the terminator who loves her and Judgment Day/saving mankind from Skynet/ourselves, make sure you check it out. It's still a WIP, but so damn compelling I just had to post. I love what they've done with the story and the future. This is what fanfic is for!

Also [profile] jengrrrl writes possibly the best rec I have ever seen for this fic (Saga of Bläken the Bloodthirsty by [profile] fivewhatfive. Have not read it yet, but it's at the top of my list and how can you resist a rec like this:

IF YOU WANT TO READ SOMETHING SUPER, REALLY WELL-WRITTEN, THAT COMBINES THE ICELANDIC SAGAS WITH, LIKE, TWO HOTS GIRLS FALLING IN LOVE? YOU NEED TO TOTALLY READ [profile] fivewhatfive'S SAGA OF BLäKeN THE BLOODTHIRSTY. BASICALLY, LOOK AT THIS MOTHERFUCKING STORY. THERE ARE SWORDS, THERE IS POWERFUL MAGIC, THERE ARE GODS AND WOLVES AND PELTS AND HORSES AND FUCKING BILBERRIES. BASICALLY, IT'S JUST AWESOME. BECAUSE WHO DOESN'T LIKE SWORDS AND VIKINGS AND GIRL-ON-GIRL WITH ~FEELINGS? I MEAN, IF YOU DON'T, WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?

PS THIS IS A REALLY GOOD STORY. GO AND READ IT AND THEN TELL MARY HOW FANTASTIC SHE IS SO THAT SHE WILL WRITE MORE FOR ME.

And [profile] harper_m's A Slight Obfuscation of the Truth, Murder in Suburbia, Ash/Scribbs, Mature is HILARIOUS, HOT, and just all-around awesome. Harper has a way with complicated women. She lets them be complicated, and OCD, and brilliant without losing their sexiness, which is tough. Especially when you think about how much emphasis our culture puts on the idea of 'low maintenance' as necessary to hotness. Obviously, this does not match up with my worldview or, thankfully, harper's.
Sorry for all the drive-by postings lately (in other words, my lack of replies to comments), I've been very sick. Not sick enough to stop the femslash:

Death and Syntaxes by [livejournal.com profile] liz_estrada is Women's Murder Club, Lindsay/Cindy, Mature. This is one in a series of loosely interlinked stories that easily stand on their own. I've raved before about Ms. Estrada's writing and this story doesn't disappoint. Fascinating story peppered with wonderful dialogue and inspired details. And did I mention the hot hot sex? Gah!! No one can ever say that I have my priorities mixed up.

yanno, I've meant to rec Murder in Suburbia fic for some time. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ralst's pimping there's lots of it on [livejournal.com profile] passion_perfect and it's all worth a read. Of course the tone of the show lends itself to fluffier fare and that may be the reason I haven't taken the time to write up well-deserved recs. Until [livejournal.com profile] harper_m gave me some smutty inspiration.
Reason and Promise are both Murder in Suburbia, Scribbs/Ash, Mature. Both involve delicious use of schoolgirl uniforms, and both are indescribably erotic and just flat out hot as hell. The perfect characterization, humor, and dialogue just add to the hot.

and I just realized that the other fic I wanted to rec is trapped behind a flock. [livejournal.com profile] fewthistle set your murderous smutfic free!

eta okay it's not flocked. In fact, it's on [livejournal.com profile] passion_perfect! Similar Features by [livejournal.com profile] fewthistle is Criminal Minds/Law & Order Xover, Emily Prentiss/Serena Southerlyn. When you can't be with the one you want, a hot blonde in a club will most certainly do. This fic even inspired an answering fic form [livejournal.com profile] darandkerry, A Revelation of a Different Kind from JJ's POV. Sadly, it doesn't involve Lindsay Boxer visiting Quantico regarding the kiss-me-not killer and loads of sex w/JJ. What?! One-track mind people!
A bunch of random recs from a bunch of fandoms. Mostly fluff with a bit of angst and (of course) sex thrown in for good measure.

SGA recs:
different enough by [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant is weir/keller, PG. This is lovely and hurt/comfort , which is one of my major kinks plus its quasiradiant so...srsly. Do I even have to review this? It's somewhat fluffy believe it or not. And beautiful. Go read. Lighten up your day.

With the Cost Not Counted by [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat is Weir/Heightmeyer, Mature. Another beautiful fic. This one moves from Earth back to Atlantis and deals with all of the emotional fallout that goes along with starting a relationship in a time of transition and turmoil. Great stuff!

CSI
Summer Storm by [livejournal.com profile] so_wicked is Sara/Sofia, PG-13. A short stream-of-consciousness from Sofia's POV during/after she is shot. Finally, rain . Also check out [livejournal.com profile] so_wicked's Perfume for more fluffy, Sassy goodness!

Murder in Suburbia
Murder in Suburbia by [livejournal.com profile] trancer21 (??!) is Ash/Scribbs, Pg-13 and it's totally and completely hilarious fluff...from trancer. Did hell freeze over while I wasn't looking? Not that trancer can't write anything she wants, but I'm used to scorching hot PWP. But I loved this!

Birthday Blues by [livejournal.com profile] kjaneway is ASh/Scribbs, PG-13. This is a wonderfully sweet and well-written piece that alternates between Ash and Sullivan(it works believe it or not!)'s POV to reveal the blossoming relationship between the two women. Beautifully done.

South of Nowhere (RPS)
Fait Accompli by [livejournal.com profile] jengrrrl is actually Gabrielle/Mandy, NC-17. This short fic manages to be all kinds of hot AND fluffy at the same time. I love the way Jengrrl writes. Great description and dialog, nothing overdone.

Next post will be an enormous Xena rec in honor of [livejournal.com profile] ralst's Xena Month!
