Harry Potter (?!)

angharad_gov did a rec post (for fantastic stories in a variety of fandoms including BOP, XMEN and Xena) and reminded me of a spectacular WIP in the Harry Potter fandom. For all of you squicked by HP fandom, the characters in the story are NOT minors.

Aucune Defense Pour-toi (parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17a, 17b, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) by meingeheimnis is HP, Hermione/Fleur, PG-13 (so far). It gets a bit complicated because this story is a response to another written by dreiser, No Defense For You (same pairing, same rating). Dreiser's a wonderful writer in her own right (whose lovely Hermione/Luna WIP, Crazy Little Things, angharad also recs) and meingeheimnis builds on that with her own distinct style. This is an achingly sweet and beautiful love story written in exquisite style. Fleur, a veela, mates for life. If her love is not returned, she will fall ill and die. When she is 17 she falls in love at first sight with a 14 year-old Hermione. She denies it for 3 years at the expense of her health, finally returning to Hogwarts to teach and (attempt) to court an 18 year-old Hermione... who can't stand her. meingeheimnis takes her time with these characters and their complicated and at times painful path to love. Just beautiful. I can't wait for the next update and am hoping that I can move this writer to write at least a little faster.

I had a couple of Women's Murder Club recs as well, but cutting and pasting all of those links drove me nuts so...later.

I absolutely love Aucune Defense Pour-toi. It's a wonderful, long series that features my favourite pairing ever... XD. I'm so glad she's posting them on her journal because it was hard to find the links through hp_girlslash.

It's lovely as well. In fact, it feels a bit similar to Aucune Defense in mood and tone.

I was trying so hard to stay out of HP fandom (it's huge and scary!) but these fics are pulling me in. :) I think I've only rec'ed, like, two other HP fics. Got any other suggestions?

yay! you've rec'd no defense/aucune defense :) i hope more people pick it up. it's been a guilty pleasure of mine for quite some time and i squee like a little kid at christmas whenever meingeheimnis finds the time to update it :)

I'm so glad you rec'ed it because I wouldn't have given it a second glance. HP fandom scares me and I tend to avoid it unless I know the writer (drieser or eudaimon).

Have you read You and Me and the Rain (http://community.livejournal.com/witchwinter/2638.html#cutid1)? It's Hermione/Tonks and it's one of my fav fics in any fandom. Simply exquisite.

haven't read that one, but i'll do so right off. femslash within HP is small (compared to the rest of hp fic fandom), but growing, i think. there are a few fics that are considered "classics" like drieser's no defense and when i found out that there was fic out there that told the story via fleur's p.o.v., i jumped on it. it was a wonderful surprise and seeing it evolve and get deeper and richer as each update was posted -- i was hooked. :)

i am absolutely flattered beyond belief upon reading this post. seriously. a bit speechless. (or simply unable to use full sentences, which surprisingly happens a lot.) thank you so much.

i am admittedly quite bad with finding time to write and post. one reason for the slow turn around time is that i'm currently going through and editing the grammar and spelling mistakes that are inevitable when one is ESL. (these can be found at:

It's interesting that you are ESL. I would have guessed that (your grammar errors are obviously not the mistakes of an English native -- in other words, your writing is too beautiful to contain 'typical' grammatical errors), but some might read that as an insult in some way. Mistakes are an inevitable part of the process whether or not you are a native speaker. Regardless, your work and writing are absolutely beautiful so keep doing what you're doing.

"aucune" is my second fic. the first one is buried somewhere on the internet and i'm sure with some determination it can be uncovered. i'm not about to head the search party for it though... haha. embarrassing first fic and all. (though i have secret dreams of revamping it, putting some polish and making her presentable at some point.) it's not bad persay, but i just didn't know what story i was telling at the time if it makes sense.
