SGA

Yes, I know. My first ever SGA rec. But this is really not my fandom and I'm afraid to venture in. Until [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ recced this so hard I couldn't help myself.

the trouble you're in, by [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid is Teyla/Sora, R. And it really is one of those fics that transcends canon and fandom. I know I'm not getting a lot of the canon references, but it doesn't matter. [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid does such remarkable things with the characters, the story, and the language that I really don't care that I'm missing.

...and Teyla is caught by a wave of sympathy for the girl, who feels so deeply and struggles so violently against every obstacle, and yet is always left on the wrong side of victory.

This fic is so complex and emotionally intricate and just...yeah. There is nothing easy or simple about it. And staying in Teyla's clipped, painfully honest voice for so long, so consistently is a remarkable achievement in itself even without the fantastic sentence-level writing. It's truly wonderful.

And this reminds me why I love fanfic so much: because it goes so far beyond the 2-dimensionality of canon and creates an incredible emotional backstory. These are the real characters - the real Alex, Olivia, Teyla, Starbuck, Roslin, Faith, Willow, etc. They're all in fanfic. For me anyway. Fuck canon.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] trancer21...I"m working those mega-recs. Promise. ;)
