I remember begging for this particular pairing long ago and [livejournal.com profile] daemonluna (I think?) brought this brilliant fic to my attention:

Her Beauty and Her Terror by [livejournal.com profile] ijemanja is Wednesday/Harmony, PG-13, BTVS x Addams Family. For those of you who loved Addams Family Values and noticed that Wednesday's nemesis is none other than BTVS's Harmony (and hoped for slashy goodness someday!), you're in for a gorgeous treat. Srsly. The characterization is PERFECT which leads to unbelievable hilarity and deliciousness because of course Wednesday is working at Wolfram & Hart. Of. Course! This is like an early B-day present just for me (even though it wasn't:). It is made of nineteen kinds of win!!

Sorry for the lack of recs lately, but between classes and my frighteningly large torec list I just want to crawl under my desk and whine. With chocolate.

Crack!fic

Apr. 20th, 2006 05:20 pm
Apparently, end of the semester=crack!fic time. *looks up* thank you ghod...or, yunno, whatever's up there.

Fragments Of Lines Written On The Bathroom Walls In Ten Different Fandoms by [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 should come with a warning label because it's so damn funny you may soil yourself. Or spit food. Or something potentially damaging to furniture and/or equipment.
My favorite is from
"05. Watcher's Council Headquarters, Rome, third floor"

Faith is a slut!!!
Faith, stop writing that.

but they're all so LMAO you might just hurt yourself.

also,

[livejournal.com profile] thrace_ is writing a Star Wars uber Alias (what?) Sydney/Rachel, Mature that hits all my kinks: action, romance, and hot chicks with light sabers kicking ass. Episode I and Episode II so far. Warning: WIP.

and crack!tastic for entirely different reasons, [livejournal.com profile] trancer21's Business or Pleasure is SVU/CSI Alex Cabot/Sara Sidle, NC-17. [livejournal.com profile] trancer21 does wonderful things with language, plot, incredibly evocative rapid-fire scenes and imagery to tell a fantastically hot and complex story in 1808 words. Plus, Sara/Alex!! Apparently Witness Protection takes Ms. Cabot all over the country, putting her in contact with so many hotties. But seriously, this is a fantastic read. And FINALLY kickass takemattersintoherownhands Alex returns!
So, I have many slashkinks -- gripping story, intelligent snarky wit, excellent characterization, GOGA that doesn't read like a manual on how to assemble a desk, etc., etc. One of my serious kinks that is probably the most difficult to fulfill is fiction that blurs the line between prose and poetry. Because it's so hard to get right. It can feel forced, or the imagery can feel...wrong, or trite, or a million other tics that will make it fall off my radar.

Seven Meditations on Problems of Cognition by [livejournal.com profile] mosca, River/Kaylee, R manages to hit every note just right. This is a magnificent piece and a true piece of craftmanship. Every word, every phrase is right and true. Writing like this takes not only a lot of skill, but a lot of guts and I'm so grateful for every line of it.

The arch of her body is a conic section, a hyperbola with its mirror in the turn of the engine. Calculate its first derivative, her rate of change.

River's mathematical, lyrical, unstuck consciousness finds a perfect voice here. And I love River's 'confusion' of her self with the machine. Which is mirrored in the anthropomorphic Serenity.

*le happy sigh*
Happy Valentine's Day all. Big sloppy kisses from your femslash reccer. It's that time of year when the mind turns to romance and love, so of course around here that means Faith/Willow with all the dysfunctional hawtness.

Displacement by Fayjay, Faith/Willow, NC-17. Post-chosen. "Faith and Willow work on their Buffy issues. " but it's a lot more than that. Fayjay manages to cover so much ground with a minimum of description. She really captures Faith and Willow through well-crafted, Whedon-esque (and I mean that in the best way possible) dialog and a gift for shorthand descriptions of their familiar gestures and quirks. Plus, knockout lines like this don't hurt:
Faith is a Slayer, but Willow has become something bigger even than that. She knows she's strong enough to kill Faith now.
The thought probably shouldn't make her hot.

Life During Wartime by [livejournal.com profile] frogfarm, Faith/Willow, R. . This is an alternate BTVS S7 and frogfarm covers a lot of ground in a relatively short amount of time (and words). It is a multipart series though, so I linked to the memoried list that's considerably easier to navigate. Frogfarm lets us see the tension Faith's return causes as well as the slowly building relationship between Faith and Willow (Kennedy's not much of a factor in this story, btw). In Frogfarm's S7, it is clearly Willow's decision to bring Faith back to Sunnydale and she bears a lot of the criticism. If I have any complaint about this fic, it's that I want more. Frogfarm does a fantastic job of working within and around canon to make Faith/Willow happen, but I wanted to see more exploration of the serious emotional turmoil going on in the Summers' house. Especially, the friction between Buffy and Faith. But that's just me. :) It's a fantastic fic that will keep you reading all night.

And Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] jennyo! May this year suck less than year. Which means I hope you have as much fun watching TV (Bad Girls is on tonight) as we will.
Y'all know that Jane Espenson has a blog, right? Wherein she talks about lunch, L.A., the industry, BTVS, Angel and Tru Calling, and most important nuts and bolts advice on making it as a TV writer. The recent posts on spec scripts are fascinating stuff. If you're into writing for TV. And I know a lot of my flist is.

Jossverse

And while we're on the subject of re-recs and [livejournal.com profile] liz_estrada I thought I'd bring back one of my favorite fics. Because it was buried under a ton of other recs.

The Way, Way Back by [livejournal.com profile] liz_estrada, Faith/Kate, R is one of my favorite characterizations of Faith. Ever. Dark, fucked-up beauty full of hurt and hope as she tries like hell (and usually fails) to redeem herself. This is also a flat-out fantastic story with plot and villains to rival anything Mutant Enemy ever dreamed up. Seriously, this story is so tightly plotted, you can't see daylight behind it if you hold it up to the light. And the romance sneaks up on you (and Faith) as Faith works with the detective to make things right. There's no storybook happy ending here, but it's the absolutely right ending. For Faith.
Firefly fanfiction. Yes, it's back to the jossverse. briefly. for some amazing fic.

And all the talk about disabilities in fanfic, does River count? She's definitely pyschologically and emotionally disabled.

Rape of Kassandra by ReaverPoet. River/Kaylee, River/OtherF NC-17. Some non-violent, non-consensual issues, but nothing I couldn't stomach and I have very little tolerance for that sort of thing. River's unstuck in time remembering the past and the future as the present keeps happening around her. This is quite a balancing act and reaverpoet does a truly incredible job. Wonderfully written, sweet and heartbreakingly painful stuff.

Powder Burns by Lemon Lashes. NC-17 River/Kaylee. And a little of all the other characters too. Another fic that borders on prose poetry, this one leaning more toward prose. More great writing. Is it the fandom? Or did I just get lucky and stumble into some great fic quickly.
because I just can't help myself...
these fics are Jennifer Oksana (aka [livejournal.com profile] jennyo)'s work, so you know they're going to be good...for completely different reasons.

I've been told that I need to be more, um, critical. I disagree for the most part (this is my fun, people!), but I'll try to not be so fangirlish in my summaries. These are recs though, so if they're here, you know I think they're good enough to recommend. Or, at the very least, hot enough.

Reluctant the Vampire Slayer, PG-13 isn't exactly femslashy although there's some Fred/OtherF (no smut) and suggested Lilah/Faith. No, this is a rare treat: a Jennyo piece that's long and has *gasp* lots of plot. And Lilah! and no Buffy! Post S7 BTVS, all the slayers have been called including a surprise guest, but someone's collecting a few of them for themselves. Whatever will our heroes (and antiheroes) do?

Jennyo can fucking write, people. Her characterization and dialogue is so incredibly right it makes me remember why I loved these shows. Like the best of your favorite BTVS episodes without those pesky network censors. And a great original character/love interest for Fred. Jennyo's prose is spare, her style is exactly the way I like it: clean, incredibly efficient, with all of the wordlove necessary to satisfy a litgeek like myself. She's one of those writers who take fic to an entirely different level. Her fic has it all, impeccable characterization, hotness, style and with a flair for original popculture turns of phrase that will make you laugh your ass off or at least grind your teeth in a jealous rage.

And to make up for the lack of smut, another jennyo fic, pure Dawn/Faith PWP and completely NC-17 with a vengeance. Since U Been Gone GAH! what is it about this pairing that makes for some of the hottest fic?! It's wonderful cracktastic wrongness perhaps?

daily rec

May. 14th, 2005 02:18 pm
hopefully, I'm back on schedule with daily rec's.

Today it's an oddball that I <3 to pieces. It's dish/spoon by [livejournal.com profile] keladryb on the [livejournal.com profile] anthropomor_fic community. It's short and as hot as a drabble about a dish and spoon lusting after each other can be. *facepalm*

For something more substantial check out Liz Estrada's Keepsake It's an X-Files crossover with Cornwell's novels - Scully/Lucy Farinelli. Because two supersexy genius crimefighters should meet and share snark and other hothotthings. Liz Estrada also wrote one of my fav Faith fics ([livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname rec's this too so you know it's good), The Way, Way Back - (BTVS, Faith/Kate). It has even inspired its own fanficsequel and made me daydream about possible spinoffs although mine tend to involve crossover with L&O/Serena Southerlyn. Faith is one of those incredibly complex characters so difficult to get just right and Liz Estrada is just masterful with the dark slayer.
