fluff

It has come to my attention that my recs tend to be on the (for lack of a better word) heavy side. Yes, I love drama and angst and pr0n, but I also love the fluff. So if you know of any great fluffy fic (it counts if you wrote it), please point me in the right direction. It's fluffy time!!

Of course, I may just have a very odd definition of what constitutes fluff, so here's an example:

First Date by Seana James is a Xena uber, PG-13. No sex, no violence, barely any plot, just great characterization, dialog, and perfect pacing.

Is that fluff? Does the absence of teh sex0r make it fluff? Or is it more complicated than that? Then again, if there's no sex is it really slash? If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to slash it...

Of course there's always [livejournal.com profile] femslash_fluff...hmmm, guess it's time to make my way through that comm. When I'm finished grading...who am I kidding. Fluff first, grading...whenever I get around to it.

Fluff, to me, is like cotton candy. You stick it in your mouth and it kind of dissolves, but you get that concentrated little lump of candy and your tongue stays blue/pink/etc. It's light, it's fun and sweet, it doesn't fill you up so you can have a hot dog later, it might make you sick if you have too much of it. As for slash, as long as the primary romantic relationship is f/f, I think it passes muster. I think fluff can even contain sexxx, as long as it's fun, angst-free sex. Like a joyous tumble in the hay, you know?

For me fluff has always meant a funny, light-hearted story, that leaves a grin on your face after you're read it. It can contain sex, although of the fun rather than the erotic variety, with plenty of flirting going on as well.

Della Street's Bargain Hunting is a good example - I'm sure you've already read it.

thanks for the rec, but you know that whole "rec it even if it's your fic" thing was really directed at you. Specifically. Rec me some of your fic, please. pretty please.

If my stuff was actually worth rec'ing do you really think I'd expend so much energy trying to corral other people's work? Okay, rather than recs, here are some examples of different types of fluff.

1. The really silly/stupid Practice Makes Perfect (SVU)

2. The not really stupid but not really funny either Rumour Has It (CSI)

3. The let's not limit ourselves to the tv After the Glass Slipper

You should check out the femslash_fluff comm for proper fluffs. I'm sure they've got loads.

Well, here's a fluffy recommendation from me. But, you've read some of my shit, and as you know I write on the heavy side. If you've read this: hey wasn't this a fun read. And if you haven't: tell me what you think.

It's The Hapless Romantic by Creme Brulee

Oh yeah! definitely a fun read. But then pretty much everything Creme Brulee writes is fun and funny. I didn't even consider this for a fluff rec though because there was some angst (as far as whether the two of them would get together, etc.). I guess fluff is relative? *g* I can see how this would be VERY fluffy in terms of your fic.

Ah, but if there's no male/female sex is it really het?

While I know some people think sex=slash, I don't see slash as having to be sexual in it's content. I have always considered slash= same sex. But then again, I'm a lush who just wants to see how many times she can fit sex and slash into a comment.

Heh! Hey, I just realized that I don't have you as a friend. Would you mind if I added you?

And I just poked through your journal: Go Bucks? Are you a Buckeye? I'm an alum.

Add away, and I'll do the same. And yes, I'm a Buckeye-I attended, but like so many did not graduate ;) I live in Columbus and fear the third Saturday in November like no other.

Cool, thanks.

Oh yeah, I remember the riots, the smell of burning rubber on the November wind. The worst thing was, it didn't matter if we won or lost... there were still things burning.

You win! And yeah, I'm with you on the slash not have to be sexual in content. When me and the GF are in public, we're still slashy even though we're not having sex. *g*

I totally feel you on this; I just posted my first to femslash_fluff and I totally wasn't sure if what I wrote was actually fluff.

But I do think that slash is still slash even without teh sex. It's about emotional/affective relationships, not only sexual relationships.

Oh, hey, did you see my post re: the research study? If you get a moment in between the grading and stuff (I know, I'm in the middle of that bog myself), I'd like to see if you have any input on that.

Yeah, I have no fucking idea either. And yes, I posted a long response to that cool as hell research study post. But LJ ate my comment so I'm going to have to redo...when I'm not high on painkillers. *g*

Using TV shows as examples:

Fluff would be like Gilmore Girls or Scrubs or Everwood -- light, cheery, leaves you all smiley and warm (of course, in the case of Gilmore Girls and Scrubs it all goes to sucky sucktastic hell, but we'll over look that)

Slash would be anything that contains same-sex relationships. Oz? Yep. The L World, graphically and melodramatically yes. Will and Grace --- you THINK it wouldn't be, because the gay people in that show barely even achieve EYE CONTACT, let alone kiss, but since it is about Will ... and okay, say he actually GOT a boyfriend in all those years of billshit, even though they never get much past a peck on a lips, still slash.

Thus is how my brain works.

I really don't want to study for anthropology.
