A Thousand Enemies by [livejournal.com profile] harper_m (on [livejournal.com profile] ralst's P&P site) is Friday Night Lights, Lyla/Tyra, Mature. This is wonderful. Harper really captures the hell of living in a small southern town and the incredible class divisions that seem to be magnified in such a small space. Love the details (the scene where Lyla has to get out of the truck to open the gate rang so true to me who once lived on a farm) and the fact that Tyra is working so hard to deprive herself of the thing she wants most - Lyla.

Love is a Seasonal Thing by [livejournal.com profile] escritoireazul is Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Lena/Bridget, PG-13, Yuletide fic. This is a lovely fic that will leave you breathless and in love. Beautiful.

Never Brought to Mind by [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu is Faith/Dawn, Mature, BTVS. I LOVE this fic. It takes place long after S7 when Dawn, now a college student, begins to notice that no one remembers her. queenzulu does wonderful things with the amnesia trope, reversing it into something fresh and new. And it makes perfect sense with canon, which for some reason, is so incredibly satisfying.
Did anyone else see The Closer tonight? Unfuckingbelievably good! Just when all of my fav female-centric dramas are circling the drain (In Plain Sight has managed to castrate once-kickass!Mary in just two eps, Saving Grace is just too Xtian for me), The Closer frickin' Delivers. No, there's no femslash, but DAMN!

As for the rest of my femslash universe...I've been very, very sick involving hospital time, etc. I even missed IDF, which...is just so very, very wrong. I'd rather miss Xmas and New Year's and I'll throw in that other holiday, Easter, or maybe Groundhog Day. I do know that it produced some knockout fic which I'll get around to reading and rec'ing at some point.

I have a few more recs from [livejournal.com profile] femslash08, but really, I've yet to read a fic from that con that isn't rec-worthy. Srsly.

[livejournal.com profile] jengrrrl's Hope for the Hopeless, South of Nowhere, Spencer/Ashley, Mature is astonishing and right. Ashley's gone through rehab, but Spencer still doesn't trust her. This is very much Ashley's fic and the voice is spot on.

[livejournal.com profile] liz_estrada'z Never the Twain Shall Meet is a Buffyverse AU, Faith/Cordelia, Mature. No one gets Faith quite like [livejournal.com profile] liz_estrada. She's one of my fav Faith writers and this fic, even though it's Cordelia's POV, doesn't disappoint. Cordelia's father moves them to Boston where she meets bad girl Faith.

Rekindling by [livejournal.com profile] shelled_avenger is Harry Potter, Luna/Tonks, Mature and it's a lovely post-war story.

Love is a Painful Thing (The Second Best Mix)[livejournal.com profile] escritoireazul is a collection of 'second best' pairings from a variety of fandoms including Faith/Dawn (second best to Faith/Buffy), Blue Crush (Eden/Lena instead of Eden/Anne Marie) and a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants/She's the Man crossover that hits my soccer kink. This is an extraordinary fic on so many levels. Great writing and characterization and really, the Faith/Dawn would have been more than enough for me, the rest were a wonderful bonus. Extraordinary fic.

Like I said, I'm still making my way through these and everything's rec'able, so enjoy!

edited to correct attribution on Rekindling. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] sporkmetender!
Yes, it's the beginning of the semester...and I'm already burned out. Just a quickie because there are so many great fics going on.

Virtue by [livejournal.com profile] faith1922 is BTVS, Buffy/Faith, R. Wonderful fic that deals with Buffy's dark side. Of course Faith is the only one who can bring her back. Great characterization, writing, and a believable alternative to S7.

And Tissue by [livejournal.com profile] shati is Buffy/Faith, PG. I may have recced this already, but it's brilliant and worthy of more praise. Stunning writing and a great story in a 1600ish words.

from the Dawn round over at [livejournal.com profile] femslash_minis:
Goodnight, Demon Slayer, Goodnight by [livejournal.com profile] escritoireazul is Faith/Dawn, PG-13. This is really Dawn's fic and it shimmers with her personality. Understated and almost sweet. I can't believe I'm saying that about a fic with the dark slayer, but, yeah. Faith still has her edges, but she gets to have a little sunlight as well.

A New Shade of Green by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy is Dawn/Faith, PG-13. Again, Dawn's voice, so this sparkles more than your typical Faith fic. Dawn and Faith are undercover to protect another pathetic chosen one. There are some LOL lines in this one like:
"Thanks for waking me up," Dawn said, rolling her eyes. "Do you want to play Boggle or something?"

"You're sleeping with Faith, not Willow, baby."

Ah yes. I needed some Faith today. Thank you universe (and femslash writers) for bringing it.

There's also Where the River Meets the Dawn by [livejournal.com profile] alixtii which is Dawn/River, R and it's obviously a Firefly/BTVS crossover. Alixtii manages to make these universes collide with startling and again, sweet results. Serenity lands on the beach in front of all those babyslayers...and the Key. This moves effortlessly back and forth between River's lyrical, streaming thoughts and Dawn's more down-to-earth voice.
But first, a non[livejournal.com profile] femslash07 rec:

She Likes a Prizefight by Telanu ([livejournal.com profile] somniesperus) is Devil Wears Prada, Andrea/Miranda, Mature. [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname recced this and I checked it out to discover that it is in fact for the win! Srsly. Absolutely flawless voice and characterization and incredibly hot. It's miraculous the way telanu manages to keep Miranda Priestley in character yet have her fall for good-girl Andy. It's almost sweet. Almost. :) This is an astonishingly well-written fic.

Now, the [livejournal.com profile] femslash07 recs:
Please understand that I haven't managed to read all of the stories yet (I do have a life and a GF and everything) so if you know of something I missed, please let me know! This is only my first round of recs, so know that there are a lot more coming!

but according to fashion by [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant is Devil Wears Prada, emily/serena, emily/jocelyn, R. Told in vignettes and flashbacks, this is Emily's story of ambition and almost love.

Bloom and Grow by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is Firefly, River/Inara, Mature. Actually, this was my assignment and I'm SO glad I had to bail because [livejournal.com profile] musesfoool does wonderful things with this pairing. River is perfectly...River wanting to learn from Inara. With River, there are no sharp edges or angry words, the way there are between Inara and the captain, and no jealousy or fear of sin to cast shadows on the sanctity of who Inara is, or what she does--just the easy flow of two bodies becoming one flesh, broken bits slowly rubbing smooth.

Tissue by [livejournal.com profile] shati is Buffy/Faith, PG-13. Buffy and Faith meet up in Cleveland. There's coffee, demons, and that scar....

The Same Old Story by [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre is Buffy/Faith, R. Ahhhhh yes, hot, hot, hot cemetery sex by someone who can frickin' write (and who loves parentheses as much as I do).

Girl in the War by [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy is Bufftverse, Faith/Dawn, R-ish. post-Chosen. Dawn's all grown-up and Watcher-ish and Faith's trying to stay the bad girl...and almost succeeding.

and [livejournal.com profile] mantaraggio recced this fic to me and she was exactly right: Blood and Thunder, a Cha-Cha Challenge by [livejournal.com profile] phaballa is Missy/Torrance, R, set in an AU of roller derby (!!) instead of cheerleading. This is like my special happy place from now on. Srsly. Best. Universe. Ever! She's pretty sure there's nothing better than Missy, though. Well, maybe winning nationals. Because that? Would fucking rock. Yep, manta knows me so well...

more recs soon...

eta thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname for supplying Telanu's LJ ID.

Breaking my own rules again, but in the name of a good cause.

[livejournal.com profile] faith_slash is the home of an outstanding Faith/Dawn fic/WIP and I've been quiet about it long enough. To See (links to the first ep, click to [livejournal.com profile] faith_slash to get them all) , by [livejournal.com profile] fight_back83 (PG ) is set in S7 and has pitch-perfect characterization and dialog. [livejournal.com profile] fight_back83 really gets Dawn. And Faith. And I'm enjoying the hell out of her unflinchingly honest portrayal of self-righteous Buffy and Willow. Throw in an understanding and protective Xander, too many potentials, and the threat of Bringers and the First and you get the setup for a thoughtful and compelling (I check constantly for updates) story that's really all about Dawn. Which makes it all about Faith. Wow and wowed. And...my fandom!!!!
