Two of the links today are to [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname's LJ. If you haven't already friended her (I think there may be 2 of you left), you're missing out.

First [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname take on the recent 'bromance' girlsquee with Someone at metafandom has a wicked sense of humor and the ongoing 'erasure' of lesbians. Why is it that it's cool for women to be friends without sex, but when men are friends it really means they just want to be having sex? Bonus for reference to one of my fav fics, Boston Marriage, by [livejournal.com profile] jae_w which is Rory/Paris, Gilmore Girls.

Then [livejournal.com profile] libba_bray (yes, THE Libba Bray who wrote A Great and Terrible Beauty which is set in 1800s England girls' boarding school and one of the main characters is a lesbian) responding to California's now constitutionalized bigotry: There's nothing wrong with you, which is a line from Milk. Turns out, Libba Bray's father was a (closeted gay) minister who shared his secret life with his family. Wonderful stuff that needs to be said. Over and over again, apparently. Because this isn't just about us queers, but everyone we care about and who cares about us, which turns out to be pretty much everyone.

and last, but not least, in the 'file under crackverse' tag, [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname outlines the birth of Petrovsky/Miranda Priestley (Law and Order/Devil Wears Prada), which began (as almost all of these things do) with the diabolical genius of [livejournal.com profile] wizened_cynic, who will undoubtedly rule the world some day.

Also, if you guys aren't watching Pepa/Silvia, you are missing out on the hottest shit on TV. For reals. Via [livejournal.com profile] pepa_silvia and [livejournal.com profile] random_flores: And I had to remove the link because the video has been removed.I'm sure there's a world of appropriate meta regarding this, but I'm worn out.

eta links to the great and terrible Libba Bray

edited to change the link to Libba Bray's journal entry because the link I posted made it look like there was only one comment when there are, in fact, close to 200 already.

A lot to digest. Thank you so much for the links, each of which deserved the spotlight.

Yeah, it is a lot isn't it? I've tried to stay out of most of the Prop 8 discussions, mainly because they make me feel even worse than I already do. But Libba Bray's post was just...lovely. And thelastgoodname said everything I wanted to say about boyslash squee and much better than I could have. I get WAY too emotional about these things.

Now I just have to do some actual recs. *G*

Pepa/Silvia for the win! I can't recc this show enough. And it's not just the pair. I love the whole damned show so much that I've taken to watching it on YouTube, without understanding a word of it.

What scene did you link to?

Pepa/Silvia is just unbelievably hot.

The vid was of a recent (incredibly hot) sex scene in the lab. Even better, someone had edited so that there are no cutaways to other scenes or ads. Pure Pepa/Silvia smokinghotness.

I'm afraid I'm not getting some (okay, most) of the references you refer to here, but glad you're still alive and kickin'. :D

Sorry about that. A common complaint. I've edited the entry to (hopefully) clarify a few things and if you click through to thelastgoodname's post she has more links to the bromance boyslash flap.

I've been feeling pretty crappy and the semester is just ending. I hope to be around more. If I can :)

Um, big fat emphatic yes to everything you say, but I had no idea who Libba Bray is. Although her story reminds me of Honor Moore's memoir about her (gay) father, The Bishop's Daughter.

Sorry about that. Libba Bray wrote A Great and Terrible Beauty, which is a trilogy about 3 girls (one's a lesbian!) in an English 1800s boarding school. No I haven't read it although I mean to eventually. I have rec'ed a smoking hot fic for the book though. Does that count?

A couple of my closest friends write YA novels so I assume everyone on the planet knows the genre as well as I do, which isn't very well, but better than most. I guess?

The trilogy sounds rather interesting, I must say!

Yeah, I don't know much about current YA books at all, so I appreciate hearing about 'em.

THAT'S RIGHT. YOU WILL ALL BECOME MY SLAVES SOMEDAY. SLAAAAAAAAAAAAVES!

(Seriously, I did not anticipate so much awesome could come from one little prompt nugget of awesome that came from me.)

that's why there's such a thing as a friends-friends list. you get to read other people's friends lists without the bother of adding more people to your own reading list. ::grin::

I guess I was smart today, huh? Or rather, I was attuned to [livejournal.com profile] wizened_cynic's smarts.

Honestly, that second meta [livejournal.com profile] thelastgoodname linked to just about broke my brain. 'Thank you fandom for proving to me that there *are* some women out there in the world that don't suck! And I can, like, be friends with them and everything'.
