Kelli Connell does some really fascinating work with photography. Using only one model, she creates (in the darkroom, no Photoshop) images that explore gender and sexuality. Really fascinating work that's more than a little disturbing. And not for the usual or obvious reasons.

edited 'cause the lovely aqua_blurr pointed out that Ms. Connell is now working in Photoshop. It's all digital now. the internets are winning. :)

I am so glad you posted her website; I'd never heard of her work, but now I'm totally in love. Beautiful and thought-provoking, the crispness of her images is a startling contrast to the disjunction of her double subjects. And since lesbian photography is one of my pet interests (Catherine Opie, Kauciyla Brooks, Deborah Bright, etc.), I'm especially glad to add Kelli Connel to my list of intriguing contemporary work. So thanks! ;)

Just an FYI, from her Info page: "These images were created from scanning and manipulating two or more negatives in Adobe Photoshop. Using the computer as a tool to create a “believable” situation is not that different from accepting any photograph as an object of truth...."

Veeeeeeeeery interesting. She must have changed it recently. She used to insist that it was all done in the darkroom. Because, you know, digital art=low art. I guess she finally gave in to the evils of technology. She's already going to hell for teh gay so what's the difference anyway? :)

Also, I am at work/through the looking glass so if this sounds sort of or very crazy that is why.
