more SVU

A truly beautiful piece of fic from [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant, the fictions we manufacture. Olivia/Casey, R.
This isn't sweet or fluffy, it's difficult and complicated and just wonderful. This Olivia is damaged and [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant doesn't take the easy way out. The most striking thing about this fic is the nice contrast between the painful story and the beauty of the writing. Makes for some incredible tension on every level of the story.

But she gave those things up a long time ago, and now she's got Olivia instead. Olivia's a sun with no light, Olivia's got her own kind of gravity, and Casey's long since learned not to struggle.

Also, I really shouldn't have to say this, but everything posted here is my opinion. If you don't like a particular pairing, please don't read it! If you don't agree with my very subjective taste in fic, start your own reccing LJ. Please. There aren't enough femslash pimp sites in the world and the more (and different!) POVs the better -- to my mind anyway.

more SVU

Yes, I know I said no more SVU and I meant it. At the time. Then I ran through [livejournal.com profile] theholyinnocent's wondrous SVU fic and just had to share. That links to her longer fic (my fav), but there are links to short fics and ficlets and even drabbles.

I don't know what to say about this fic (all of them!) without sounding like a swooning fangirl...so I'll sound like a swooning fangirl. This is beautiful fic. Beautifully written, conceived and executed. It isn't light or sweet, but it isn't heavy with angst. There's no drama for drama's sake, just wonderfully realized characters caught in complicated situations, reacting realistically, which means they don't always do the right thing and someone usually gets hurt. I think one of the greatest achievements of this fic is how adult these women feel. I read a lot of fic in which these women feel more like teenagers than the strong, confident, complicated, experienced women they should be and are in [livejournal.com profile] theholyinnocent's fic. Also, as a former New Yorker, it's so nice to read someone who gets the feel (and details) of the city right.

If I used a stars system, this bunch of fic would get 4.5 to 5 out of 5. It's that good.

Just to warn you, although her fic strongly leans toward Alex/Olivia, there is more than passing reference to Olivia/Abbie.
reccing this is so wrong, I don't want to be right...

I know I'm going to catch holy hell for this, but this is some spectacular fic even if the pairing is beyond rare and possibly offensive to some.

Law & Order, SVU, Olivia/Maureen (or Molita as the originators jokingly refer to it). As in, Eliot's college-age daughter, Maureen. That Maureen. If that squicks, please don't read.
Although, Maureen is above the age of consent (attending Columbia) and the fics are from her
POV, so this isn't some creepy pedophiliac Olivia.

The Molita history according to [livejournal.com profile] projectjulie: It started out as a private joke and ended up as some incredibly intense fic. Remember being a teenager and longing for an older woman? then you'll relate to these fics. Now, imagine that woman was the hotness and totally alcoholic/bipolar complexity of Olivia.

It started with some comments/jokes in an LJ thread, which lead to this brilliant piece of fic: Separation by [livejournal.com profile] aeonian, PG.

Which lead to another short, History again by [livejournal.com profile] aeonian, again PG and the joke was pretty much over because, well, there's nothing funny about beautifully written, dark and intense fic. This quote, in particular, really got me: Maureen knows she has an unfair advantage. She knows all the secrets her father knows, and then some: Olivia's mother was an alcoholic, her father was a rapist, and she will do anything to get in bed with a blue-eyed blonde again. GAH!

Then [livejournal.com profile] theholyinnocent gets involved with the beautiful and tragic I can't believe I wrote the whole thing... R-ish and I'm now totally sold on this insanely wrong pairing.

It's amazing what a few unbelievably good writers can do for a pairing I would have 1) never thought of 2) never ever believed could work 3)never believed I would ever even read
and now I'm imagining Molita icons. ugh.

Tomorrow fluffy, non-SVU fic. promise.

Edited to add the gah! quote from History.

also edited to add mad props to [livejournal.com profile] tremblingmoon for leading me down this twisted path!
